United States is the main trading partner of Costa Rica, highlighting products such as medical devices, pineapple, banana, coffee, gold, among others.

Costa Rican exporters, especially small and medium enterprises, have a new option to streamline their exports to the United States. This is the Costa Rican Trade Center (CTC), a distribution center to store and distribute domestic products, which opened with a simple act, in MIQ Logistics in Miami, Florida.

The inauguration was attended by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade, Jhon Fonseca and General Manager of the Foreign Trade Corporation of Costa Rica (PROCOMER), Pedro Beirute Prada. Also they attended by representatives from USDA, FDA, Sea Port and Airport of Miami, and 80 market entrepreneurs interested in Costa Rican offer.

For the Chairman of the Board of Directors of PROCOMER and Minister of Foreign Trade, Alexander Mora, this initiative is a milestone in innovation processes of the Promoter. “The opening of the CTC is part of a systematic and gradual innovation, deepening public-private development of new services and process management. We want to improve the accompaniment to our small and medium businesses, and lead to the next level, the portfolio of public services available.” Said the Minister. He also invited exporters to approach PROCOMER for detailed model of the CTC. “If the project is developed as expected, it could be the first of a network of similar centers, which serve as distribution platform, even in regions such as Europe, Middle East and Asia, where because of the time and cost of transportation, economies of scale and distributed storage could give our exports more competitive and buyers, greater certainty and shorter lead times. ” Concluded Minister from San Jose.

Pedro Beirute Prada General Manager of PROCOMER said that now, the community of Miami and Florida, will taste new products and high quality as some of the tics firms that are part of this project have certifications such as ISO 9001-2008, FSSC 22000, Halal , IFS Food, Kosher, NOP and essential COSTA RICA (seal to companies that comply with the values of the country brand is awarded: excellence, sustainability, social progress, innovation and Costa Rican origin).

Some buyers will benefit from the CTC distributors, supermarket chains, hotels, restaurants, e-commerce platforms, cruises and institutional channel (schools, colleges and hospitals).

United States is the main trading partner of Costa Rica, in 2015 the country exported to this destination $ 3,767 million in the first half 2016 $ 1,982,000, highlighting products such as medical devices, pineapple, banana, coffee, gold, among others.
